Hello from Kyrgyzstan! This is Kyle writing, trying to measure up to Eva's blogging excellence. We'll see how it goes.
So after spending time training in Ft. Lewis, Washington, and Miami, we've finally made it out the door. We flew to Kyrgyzstan on Friday, stopping to refuel in Illinois, Newfoundland, Iceland, Germany, and Poland. A plane full of soldiers and their gear is heavy enough to warrant frequent gas stops. The breaks were a welcomed opportunity to stretch our legs though.
Here we are in WA state ready to fly out. We loaded all of the bags in the belly of the plane, which was fun, except the belly allowed only about five and a half feet of standing room. I opted to stay out of the rain, so I was hunched over for a bit.
A window shot as we were descending over Iceland. This part of the country looked barren, but we could see more mountainous regions to the north. The airport was immaculate, the people were kind, and it wasn't as icy as I would have expected.
Here we are unloading baggage in Manas, Kyrgyzstan, and our awesome barracks. Well, that's it for now. we are waiting on a flight out to Afghanistan, and communication capabilities may be limited there. So here's a start to what hopefully will be frequent updates
